From Ubuntu's website, of course. :-) You don't need a special VMWare only ISO.http://www.ubuntu.com/download/server

You can get the Ubuntu server virtual images from VMware's repository for images here:
You can search for the image you want in the search box to the left. However, if you are looking for the generic ISO for ubuntu server, follow reverendj1's answer.

Step 7: Play the virtual machine to install Ubuntu.

Step 8: Now on the welcome screen you have to select your language and after selecting your language click âInstall Ubuntuâ. Select your keyboard layout and on the updates and other software, select Normal installation, download updates while installing Ubuntu and install third-party software for graphic and wifi-hardware and after that click on continue.
Step 9: After that, you have to select the installation type. So, just select âErase disk and install Ubuntuâ donât worry it will not going to erase any data from your computer because we are installing Ubuntu in our VMware Player. Click on âInstall Nowâ and âContinueâ.
Step 10: Now select your location and create your user name and password and click on continue to install.
The installation will take some time, so donât worry give time to install. After the installation is completed reboot Ubuntu and on the reboot windows you will get âPlease remove the installation medium, then press ENTERâ. We donât have any installation medium, just press ENTER key to reboot. After that enter your user and password and now youâre ready to use it.
This way you can install Ubuntu in VMware Workstation Player. I will recommend you to watch the video tutorial mentioned above in this article.
